ARTIST WORKSHOP | Ledger Drawings: Past and Present
ARTIST WORKSHOP | Leland Bryan
Ledger Drawings: Past and Present
Participants in this artist-led workshop are invited to learn about the history of ledger drawings and to create their illustrations on repurposed materials. Ledger drawings are a traditional form of artwork originally practiced by Plains Indian artists paper that was commonly used for accounting and record-keeping by early colonizers in the 1800s. Lakota artist Leland Bryan will lead workshop participants in a discussion and drawing activity to explore this art form, its historic roots, and present-day voice in contemporary Indigenous artwork. Art supplies will be provided, though participants are also encouraged to bring different kinds of scrap paper materials from home for creative experimentation at the workshop.
Artist Leland Bryan is contributing a mural to the High Iron boxcar in summer 2025.
